Learning HTML Basics
As I embark on my web development journey, I wanted to share my experience learning HTML, the foundation of the web. HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is the standard markup language for creating web pages and applications.
Getting Started with HTML
HTML documents are made up of elements that define the structure and content of a web page. Here's a basic HTML5 document structure:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">
<title>My First Web Page</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>Hello, World!</h1>
<p>This is my first web page.</p>
</body>
</html>
Key HTML Elements I've Learned
1. Text Elements
HTML provides various elements for text formatting:
<h1>to<h6>for headings<p>for paragraphs<strong>and<em>for emphasis<br>for line breaks<hr>for thematic breaks
2. Links and Images
Creating hyperlinks and adding images is fundamental:
<a href="https://example.com">Visit Example</a>
<img src="image.jpg" alt="Description of image">
3. Lists
HTML supports both ordered and unordered lists:
<ul>
<li>First item</li>
<li>Second item</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li>First step</li>
<li>Second step</li>
</ol>
Semantic HTML
I've learned the importance of semantic HTML for accessibility and SEO:
<header>and<footer>for page structure<nav>for navigation<article>for self-contained content<section>for thematic grouping<aside>for side content
Next Steps
While I'm still getting comfortable with HTML, I'm excited to continue learning and start combining it with CSS for styling and eventually JavaScript for interactivity. The web development journey has been fascinating so far, and I can't wait to build more complex projects!
If you're also learning HTML, I'd love to hear about your experiences and any tips you might have!
